Gold from Fire
Reading through 1 Peter has been encouraging as our Lord faced sufferings and trials too. The passage that talks about being brought forth as gold through the fire reminds me of my life verse, I chose so many years ago in college: Job 23:20 “And He knows the way that I take; And when He has tried me I shall come forth as gold.”
Gold and silver have to go through intense fire to clean out all the impurities called dross. The more the refiner uses the heat, the impurities burn off, but if he uses too much heat, he could ruin the silver or gold. When asked how and when he knows he has gone far enough, he will be able to see his reflection in the metal.
Wow, God is striping away the toxicity in my life. Anything that stands in the way of my relationship with Him. God is using all kinds of tests for all of us, especially those issues we hold most dear, to refine us so that in the end, we will shine brightly and reflect our Master’s face. It doesn’t get much better than that, and I have to bring it all into perspective. If this is His ultimate goal, all I can do is say, Lord, have Your way.
“Gold From Fire”
Verse 1
In the quiet of the night, I wrestle
With moments I feel like flames strangle
Walking through the burning fire
Seeking Truth, my heart’s desire.
Chorus:
I’ve been through a cleansing fire
Where my hopes and fears conspire
God knows the path I take
And when He tests me, I’ll awake
I’ll come forth as gold, refined and free
In His image, He’ll see me.
Verse 2
I recall the storms that tore me down
In the torrential, I nearly drowned
But in the storm, I heard His voice
Calling me to make a choice.
Chorus:
I’ve been through a cleansing fire
Where my dreams and doubts conspire
God knows the path I take
And when He tests me, I’ll awake
I’ll come forth as gold, refined and free
In His image, He’ll see me.
Bridge:
Jesus never left me on this road
He carried me to hope untold
Through His words, I followed His light
Guiding me through the dark soul of the night.
Verse 3
There are days of trials and tears
Yet through it all, God calms my fears
In the mirror, now I see
My Savior’s reflection – not me.
Chorus:
I’ve been through a cleansing fire
Where my spirit and soul aspire
God knows the path I take
And when He tests me, I’ll awake
I’ll come forth as gold, refined and free
In His Image, He’ll see me.
Outro
Through trials and difficulty
I’m becoming who I’m meant to be
Gold from the fire, shining bright
Reflecting Him in the light.
